This page houses my research paper and the processes I used to write it.
I choose to write about the decriminalization of psychoactive substances inspired by Michael Moore's documentary about Europe. I ended up shifting entirely from my initial brainstorming session as there were so many topics to choose from. Initially, I wanted to write about days off or healhcare but as I researched found decriminalization to have many more interesting implications. My early brainstorming can be found here. A short summary of which can be found here. This post also goes into more detail as to what we were meant to establish in regards to rhetorical purpose.
This is an MLA research paper. The overall tone, diction, and themes are more formal and meant to persuade an audience while also making informed statements that support my overarching argument. Ethos, Pathos, and Logos are all meant to be established in this paper. I found this particular paper a bit more challenging than the Memoir as it is meant to be more of a formal piece and as such the language choice is much different from my other work.
My process for this paper was vastly different from my Memoir, I found that I could only work on it in short bursts unlike the other paper. A post about my initial process can be found here. Research takes time and requires viable data and sources to make the paper any good. This was definitely a factor when I wrote this, my annotated bibliography for the initial draft can be found here, a lot more were added as the paper became more and more substantive which I found really interesting. I needed almost ten more sources to make the paper cohesive. I hope you enjoy it, I'm certain that my paper could cause lots of argument. Have at it!
