Write a 200-word summary of the film
In the documentary Where to Invade Next, Michael Moore uses a satirical approach to the social structures of various other 1st world countries and how they handle work, health care, and even drugs. He “invades” these counties in order to “steal” these ideas to share with the American. Each country has a decidedly more liberal approach to the various systems in place in the US. France, Finland, Italy, Slovenia, Germany and Portugal are all examples used here in the film. In these European nations we see countries that are all of our allies and yet all approach each social system very differently. The social issues tackled are as follows: health care, labour laws, sex education and drug policy. The French and the Germans each have shorter working hours and yet have some of the strongest economies in Europe. The Portuguese have easier drug laws and much lower death rate associated to abuse and misuse of drugs that are illegal in the US. We also see in France their system of teaching youths ways other than abstinence to combat STDs and pregnancy and not coincidentally a much lower teen pregnancy rate than in most developed nations. I agree with what you said about the kairos of the film. There were a lot of changes going on in 2016 which I think led to the production of film so that we can change for the better.
